review research Medication reviews for elderly patients by pharmacists appears to increase rather than reduce the number of hospital admissions according to a study published this week. The study by the University of East Anglia found that hospital admissions rose by 30 per cent after a home based medication review by a pharmacist. This could be due to better adherence to medications and hence more adverse events, they said, but added that more research is needed to explain the counterintuitive results.
