THE WORLD'S FIRST BIOCIDAL CLEANER WITH
'RESIDUAL BARRIER TECHNOLOGY' (RBT) IS
LAUNCHED
PROVEN 100% EFFECTIVE AGAINST MRSA 'SUPERBUG' FOR AT LEAST SEVEN DAYS! An important new weapon in the ever more serious battle against pathogenic bacteria and viruses has been launched onto the world market and the implications for infection control throughout the world are profound! The result of more than ten years research and development by a British Biochemist. Steri-X is the world's first biocidal solution proven to kill all known pathogenic bacteria, including the MRSA 'superbug', E Coli (0157H), Legionella Pneumophilia, Salmonella Enteritidis and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, and remain 100% active for at least seven days. Gentle enough to use at home, yet potent enough to use in clinics, hospitals, veterinary surgeons, nursing homes, schools, dentists and doctors surgeries, the product can be safely applied to all surfaces, including fabrics, walls, floors, worktops, doors, sinks, baths, toilets, telephones, food trays and even food preparation areas. It is available in a 500ml-trigger spray for easy applications to surfaces and fabrics as well as a 5ltr container for larger areas. Once the liquid has been sprayed and wiped over the designated surface, it remains 100% effective for at least seven days, thanks to its patented Residual Barrier Technology (RBT). Normal surface cleaning and handling will not affect its efficacy. Steri-X can also be applied to air conditioning filters in offices and airplanes in order to prevent the spread of Legionella Pneumophilia and other bacteria that would otherwise be re-circulated. The formula has been tested by independent specialists and public health laboratories, their reports testify to the efficacy of this product. GROUNDBREAKING DISCOVERY TO STAMP OUT MRSA, LEGIONELLA, E-COLI AND STREPTOCOCCUS A new substance discovered in the labs of a Manchester based industrial coatings manufacturer is set to play a key role in stamping out outbreaks of a wide range of "superbugs" including listeria, legionella. e-coli and even drug resistant micro-organisms such as MRSA. The news comes less than a month after Health Secretary John Reid demanded urgent action to combat the MRSA super bug which some experts have predicted could kill up to 150,000 patients over the next two years. The company, Byotrol LLC. part of Manchester based HMG Paints believes its new product, Byotrol, is a world first and represents a significant breakthrough in mankind’s battle against bugs. The product offers numerous benefits over conventional bacteriocides in that it can deal effectively with drug resistant strains, continues to be effective for up to 7 days after application, is virtually harmless to humans and animals and is formulated from substances which have a very low environmental impact. The product has already secured approval world wide with numerous organisations including the Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association Group in the UK, The South African Bureau of Standards and Icelandic Fisheries Laboratories. It has also undergone numerous safety and efficacy tests as part of an ongoing approval process by the EPA (Environment Protection Agency) in the USA. Importantly it has been deployed with a high level of success at a major shellfish processing plant in Torshaven, Iceland where its success helped save the plant from closure. In the UK, Warrington based Airline Cabin Interiors Specialist Y2K Aviation has conducted extensive cleaning and sanitizing trials having incorporated Byotrol into its soon to be launched aviation cleaning product Aerocare. The trials have been carried out in conjunction with one of the UK’s leading tour operators Thomas Cook Airlines with results showing greatly improved levels of sanitization remaining active for extended periods of time due to the incorporation of Byotrol. Y2K has presented trial results to the Airline’s Technical, Cabin Services, Quality and Heath & Safety executive with a view the Airline adopt the AeroCare incorporating Byotrol product universally across the fleet. In the Medical field an Irish diagnostic reagent manufacturing company, Audit Diagnostics, Cork, Ireland is marketing the Sterl STAT range of products incorporating Byotrol throughout its’ network of 75 distributors on a world wide basis for use in the laboratory and the entire hospital medical field. It includes such applications as cleaning and sanitising all areas where blood products are. These would include instrumentation, benching, isolation wards and operating theatres where the super bug such as MRSA would be present. The Steri STAT range of products are also now gaining wide spread acceptance in the food preparation areas such as food manufacturing companies and food dispensing companies. Its’ unique properties of non-toxic, non-corrosive, odourless makes this an ideal sanitising agent for these applications. The breakthrough that makes Byotrol unique is the fact that it uses the laws of physics instead of chemistry to halt the march of bacteria. As Stephen Falder. Chairman of Byotrol points out:" Byotrol has the capacity to kill the bacteria on everyday surfaces such as doors, walls, door handles, tables, chairs and workstations and in confined spaces such as airline cabins, railway carriages offices and lifts. It offers residual ongoing protection as it not only kills the bugs it comes into contact with but also continues to do so by taking action against any new bugs that appear after Byotrol has been applied." Byotrol has a three stage effect on bugs and it uses something as straightforward as changes in surface tension as the basis of its lethal attack on the deadly strains of bacteria. Surface tension has a huge effect on small things and a small effect on big things. The effects of Byotrol on the bugs are deadly, but the process only has a measurable effect on the tiniest of living organisms and is therefore harmless to humans and animals As Stephen Falder points out, ‘Put simply. Byotrol interferes with the conditioning of the surface, such as a wall or table, before the bug lands, making it more difficult for the micro organism to settle on the surface and stay there and reproduce. Then, when the bug secretes material in an attempt to form a biofilm. (le what is needed for the bug to stick to the surface) the secretion compounds - proteins. polysaccharides or oily type materials - are all disrupted by the pervading surface tension regime, making it much more difficult or impossible for the bug to form a firm attachment to the surface. Finally, the bug, in its weakened state, succumbs to the gentlest of biocidal action provided by the associated biocides contained within Byotrol. These are not heavy duty compounds, but when acting on such a tiny life form as a micro organism, they cause the bug’s membrane to burst before it has a chance to reproduce And it s not only Byotrol who are excited about the tremendous potential of the product in mankind’s battle against the superbugs Dr. Ralph Portier. Professor and Chairman of the Department of Environmental Studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. LA. and Director of its Aquatic and Industrial Toxicology Laboratory has conducted extensive tests on candidate antimicrobial products for government and the private sector. He believes the ‘Byotrol family" of biocides to be a true breakthrough in reducing exposure and risk When we started testing Byotrol it quickly became apparent to us that this company had invented a new platform for delivering multiple biocidal action using workhorse chemicals of proven effectiveness and safety. It is a remarkable next step in delivering hygienic protection without playing the game of increasing and repeating applications rates using single formulations. This "new platform’ for maintaining a sanitised environment for public institutions, the private sector or homemakers, will more than likely become the standard for providing biocidal effect while reducing long term complications from microbial acclimation and resistance. Stephen Falder believes ‘As well as the medical markets and the NHS, we see great potential for within the food processing industry and also the travel and airline industries as well as for Byotrol based derivatives in a wide range of domestic applications from pet care to shoe deodoriser." - Note: Byotrol- The Scientific Process Byotrol is a mixture, held together in close association by non chemical bonds. Its long polymer. siloxane based backbone has an extraordinarily strong affinity for any non-aqueous material, be it organic inorganic, or even metallic. Byotrol has a backbone of a low surface tension hydrophobic polymer with associated biocides and preservatives which have a proven and well understood biocidal effect. Critically, one of the components needs to have a relatively higher surface tension. In other words, at bug level, there’s an alternating surface tension regime with hydrophobic and hydrophilic sites in close proximity and an added cell Lytic ingredient. These physical effects are so small that they only have a measurable effect on the tiniest of living organisms. but that effect is devastating. (17/10/03) |
