1st November 2003 Post-code cancer enquiry So John Reid is to set up an enquiry into why the post-code lottery of cancer drugs still exists. Should set a record for the least time to complete an enquiry. Phone round drug companies, ask “if we give you money will you give us the drugs you make?” Probable answer – yes. Phone round oncologists, ask “why don’t you prescribe these drugs?” Probable answer – because the trust told me I can’t because they’re too expensive. Ask oncologists “would you prescribe these drugs if they trust allowed you to?” Probable answer – yes. Phone round trusts, ask “why can’t you afford there drugs?” Probable answer – you insist we stay within our budget, you set that budget, you haven’t given us any more money to buy more drugs. If you want to know why the post-code lottery of cancer drugs still exists look in the mirror John. (Anon - DNUK) |
