Anti-bacterial pen

                 HEADLINES

The pen that combats infection

With MRSA and Clostridium Difficile continuing to hit the headlines (there were 6,381 cases of MRSA in the year to April 2007 and 13,666 infections of C Diff in the three months from April to June alone), minimising cross-infection within hospitals and other at risk facilities is a major concern for healthcare professionals.

Doctors are being encouraged not to wear long sleeved shirts and everyone is instructed to wash their hands constantly, and now, another potential source of infection is the focus of attention – the humble pen. Pen manufacturer Senator Pens has developed the Hattrix Anti-Bac pen. It offers the key benefit of being manufactured from plastic impregnated with an anti-infective additive.

Following tests by an independent Microbiological and Cell Culture Technology laboratory using Escherichia Coli, Salmonella Typhimurium and Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria, the additive is certified as having a definite antibacterial effect. This additive behaves like human skin, ‘coating’ the barrel and protecting against infection even after printing on the pen.

The push-button Hattrix Anti-Bac has a modern barrel design, in white, with an ergonomic ripple-profile grip section. It is supplied with blue ink as standard, with black ink available as an option.

Bernard Evans , managing director of Anti-Bac distributor, Right Ideas, said: “This is not just the ideal pen for healthcare facilities, but for anywhere that pens might be shared between colleagues, customers or the general public. Reception areas, super mark ets and banks all provide ideal breeding grounds for the fast-multiplying single-celled organisms behind so many common ailments. And restaurants are particularly vulnerable with the added challenge of keeping kitchens germ free.”

Anything that hinders the transmission of infection in such areas must be a good idea. Hattrix Anti-Bac means that you can give somebody a pen carrying your corporate message with the confidence that all you are passing on is a quality writing instrument.”
