New cataract service|
New cataract
service opens in the heart of the community in Croydon A new community cataract service has
opened in Croydon, providing a high quality service close to patients’
homes, whilst aiming to limit waiting times to less than eight weeks. This consultant led and delivered
service is provided by The Practice, one of the UK’s leading
independent providers of primary care services and will be run from
Parchmore Medical Centre in Thornton Heath, Croydon. Commissioned by NHS
Croydon to provide this new pilot service, The Practice is welcoming new
referrals and patients and has tailored this Cataract day surgery to
offer the residents of Croydon the best possible care in cataract
treatment, without the need for general anaesthetic. The service will limit waiting times
meaning that patients will not have to wait more than four weeks before
they are assessed and can then be put forward for surgery within the
next four weeks. The service is led by Mr Nick
Jacobs. A Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and a
Consultant and Clinical Lead for the national ophthalmology service, Mr
Jacobs is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon who
specialises in cataract and glaucoma surgery. Holding international
acclaim in these specialist subjects, Mr Jacobs has published multiple
papers on cataract care and is well regarded within this sector. Mr Nick Jacobs, Clinical Lead for
The Practice’s national ophthalmology service says, “This is
a new service for Croydon that we hope will transform cataract care in
the area. We are keen to ensure this service benefits the community and
look forward to making a positive impact on local healthcare.” The treatment will be provided in
