New
generation of ID badge for NHS staff will warn supervisors if lone
workers are in danger.
Staff
working in isolation within the NHS will soon be able to use ID badges
which are capable of alerting supervisors immediately if they have been
assaulted, are victims of verbal abuse or are in danger of being
attacked. The Attendo Identicom unit houses a standard ID badge which is
worn around the neck or attached to the lapel, and is designed to be
issued to personnel who work on their own in the community.
The device has been developed in conjunction with CTI
specialists, Voice Connect.
The system works with the company’s VC Lone Worker module which has
been designed to cope with the growing rise in violence against lone
workers in recent years.
The
device is designed to be simple to use by personnel in the field.
Staff press a discreet button on the back of the ‘badge’,
setting up an ‘Amber Alert’ scheduling a timed alarm and recording
their location.
f the alert is not cancelled because the lone worker is detained
or experiencing difficulty with a member of the public, the alarm is
activated. The badge
vibrates intermittently acting as a reminder to help prevent false
alarms.
A ‘Red Alert’ can be activated at any time simply by pressing a
button to silently summon help- this also covertly triggers a recording
enabling respondents to hear what is happening and send appropriate
help.
The badge is equipped with a ‘rip alarm’ function which alerts the
lone worker’s manger if the badge is forcibly removed.
The Attendo Identicom badge has been developed
to complement Voice Connect’s VC Lone Worker system.
The new system is designed for use within a range of
organisations across the
UK
including NHS trusts, housing associations, councils and police forces.
Attendo Systems are also able to provide 24 hour monitoring and response
for organisations that do not have staff on call throughout the day.
“Lone workers are more prone to assault than most other groups of
personnel,” explains Voice Connect’s Managing Director, Stefan
Olsberg. “For the last 3 years Voice Connect’s most popular product
has been VC Lone Worker which has helped to protect thousands of lives
across the
UK
. This latest development
makes it considerably safer and more effective.”
The Identicom module, which can be purchased as an upgrade to a current
system, has been unveiled by Attendo Systems Ltd and Voice Connect for
the first time at the Association of
Social Alarm Providers 10th
Anniversary show in Blackpool. Paul
Shead from Attendo Systems Ltd explains the thinking behind the new
joint venture. “We could see that Voice Connect had a very powerful
lone worker system that offered personnel greater security when working
in potentially dangerous situations. The Attendo Identicom unit enhances
the system in many ways, opening the product up to a wider market
place.”
